Control: A distraction simulator
Hi there,
Welcome to the first dev-log for Control! I've been thinking about the effect the internet has had on my life, especially these days (in the midst of coronavirus) and wanted to try and capture that in a game. Control is about taking back control (or trying) by resisting lucrative distractions like social media, online gaming and other internet based applications. I've been meaning to make a simulator of sorts for a long time, and last week I thought I'd just get down to it and build something playable in a week.
As you can imagine its super-rough but I think the core idea is in there. I hope to expand on it a lot more in the weeks to come.
Features
These are the features currently in the game.
- Writing a story (where you basically click a button at the write time to reveal the next line or two) within a given time limit. The main character in the game is a writer who's trying to work without distractions
- Read and participate in a Whatsapp style chat group, which serves to distract from the task at hand.
- A small mini hyper casual mobile game where you compete for a high-score with someone over the internet.
- A will-power system which drains as you write your story, which depletes a lot more if you switch context and participate in the distraction activities mentioned above. Your will-power regenerates once you stop writing.
Feel free to leave a comment or get in touch if you run into any sort of trouble!
